The SysCare® MailGuard™ service is designed to protect you from harmful content that is frequently hidden in innocuous looking email messages.  There are five steps to this protection:

1.       External Service:  The service is external to your network, which means that all messages are received and processed in a quarantine fashion before the cleaned email is forwarded on to your network.

2.       Caching:  The service can hold email in case your server(s) or Internet connection is down, so that you don’t lose incoming email.

3.       Virus Filtering:  The service has virus filtering built in and can scan incoming messages and reject them if they have virus or other malware attachments.  This anti-virus engine checks for updates as often as every hour.

4.       Black Lists:  The service eliminates email sent from a sender that is listed on any one of the three top real-time black lists.  These lists maintain the addresses of known spammers and senders of malicious content.

5.       Three-level tagging:  The above filtering steps eliminate up to 97% of the unwanted email traffic from ever entering your network.  The email that is passed to your network is sorted into three categories.  Rules can be written for your local email client to sort these messages to your preference.

a.       The first category is “Possibly Spam”.  The service tests every message against over 900 factors to determine if it is potentially spam content.  These messages are the most harmless and can be regular emails that you desire.  Therefore, the messages are changed in no other way than the appending of the subject line to include the words “Possibly Spam”.  The message content is left intact.  Most users will leave these in their inbox and selectively delete the unwanted messages.

b.      The second category is “Probably Spam”.  These messages have a little higher score and are encapsulated to protect the user from potentially harmful self-activating worm viruses.  Many users set up local rules in their email client to sort these messages to a spam folder that is checked only occasionally.

c.       The third category is “Definitely Spam”.  These messages are also encapsulated in another message and the subject is appended with the tag Definitely Spam so that it can be easily sorted by your local email client.  These messages are often handled by a rule to send them to the local user’s deleted folder.

The SysCare® MailGuard™ service is designed to be simple to use and maintain.   The service is carefully tuned to be aggressive without taking out desired messages.  That is the main reason that we developed the three-level tagging scheme.  There are no white-lists, black-lists, categories, or quarantines to maintain.  SysCare® MailGuard™ is successful in removing up to 98% of harmful or unwanted network from corporate networks.
