‘No More Ransom’ Celebrates its First Year
– a press release
“The success of the No More Ransom initiative is a shared success…”
For Immediate Release – July 27, 2017
Muncie, Ind. – This week, No More Ransom, a project created to help victims of ransomware retrieve their encrypted data without having to pay, celebrated its one year milestone.
The No More Ransom project has gained popularity in the last year as ransomware continues to be on the rise. To date, the project has over one hundred partners, including private industry as well as law enforcement agencies from across the globe. These contributors have created a toolset that boasts over 50 decryption tools spanning 100+ families of ransomware.
“The success of the No More Ransom initiative is a shared success, one that cannot be achieved by law enforcement or private industry alone,” No More Ransom says. This success refers to over 28,000 decrypted devices which are estimated to have saved over 9.3 million dollars to end-users and organizations.
Although tools are becoming more sophisticated and readily available to fight against ransomware and other malware attacks, it should be noted that prevention is always the ideal solution. No More Ransom states, “Since it is much easier to avoid the threat than to fight against it once the system is affected, the project also aims to educate users about how ransomware works and what countermeasures can be taken to effectively prevent infection.”
