Microsoft Halts Legacy Support Forums

Muncie, Ind. – Microsoft has announced that it will no longer contribute in its technical support forums for select legacy software and hardware. Windows 7, 8.1, 8.1 RT, and several other OS variants are on the chopping block. Continuing, Microsoft will no longer participate in forums dedicated to Microsoft Security Essentials, Office 2010 and 2013, or Internet Explorer 10 and its previous iterations.
Microsoft has also vowed to abandon support forums for once-popularized hardware, including the legacy Surface line — Surface Pro, Surface Pro 2, Surface 2, and Surface RT. In a more extreme stance, Microsoft Band and Zune forums will not only be subject to discontinued support, but will also be ‘locked’ — resulting in a shutdown of community discussion.
The deadline for Microsoft’s Community forum involvement for these products is set for July 2018. Microsoft is discontinuing forum support for these products in an effort to “shift scope.” Microsoft has announced that while they will no longer contribute in terms of technical support, they remain dedicated to moderating non-locked channels to ensure that they continue to be a “safe and positive environment.”
