Microsoft Releases Standards for ‘Highly Secure’ Windows 10 Devices
– a press release
“Earlier this week, Microsoft released new security standards for consumers to keep in mind when selecting their Windows 10 devices.”
For Immediate Release – November 07, 2017
Muncie, Ind. – Earlier this week, Microsoft released new security standards for consumers to keep in mind when selecting their Windows 10 devices. These new security standards are labeled as ‘highly secure’ and are intended to future-proof devices as attacks and vulnerability profiling becomes more sophisticated.
These standards include recommendations for both hardware and firmware. Microsoft specifically targets “general purpose desktops, laptops, tablets, 2-in-1’s, mobile workstations, and desktops” using the Windows 10 Fall Creators Update.
Meeting the proposed security standards might currently be a challenge for users of OEM devices, as the proposed hardware includes some niche specs. For example, Microsoft recommends the use of a Trusted Platform Module, or TPM, which is difficult to find among consumer devices. However, the hope from Microsoft is that manufacturers might also consider these specifications as they continue to produce and design new machines.
