Microsoft Tests Search UI Update for Windows 10
– a press release
“…a new search interface has been included in the latest test build of Windows 10 (17040) released last week.”
For Immediate Release – November 21, 2017
Muncie, Ind. – With the Fall Creators Update, Microsoft improved Cortana’s keyboard-based searching, allowing users to make use of the screen and get detailed search results. Now, it appears the company is testing another dedicated search utility.
According to the Italian blog Aggiornamenti Lumia, a new search interface has been included in the latest test build of Windows 10 (17040) released last week. The new look replaces the Cortana interface for now, and could be a sign Microsoft is looking to improve its approach to search assist.
The final result looks similar to Apple’s Spotlight search for macOS and replaces the Cortana search interface. So far, the new feature is only present in the Insider’s test program for Windows 10 build 17040. Microsoft uses these builds to evaluate upcoming features, hinting that the new Windows 10 search may be available with Redstone 4. However, Microsoft has not offically announced the new search UI, meaning that this feature could be canceled or modified in the meantime.
