Muncie, Ind. – Android Oreo, the latest operating system (OS) from Google has officially launched and is available to limited audiences. Sporting many new features, this marks the 8 generation of Android development.
Android users can now enjoy picture in picture mode (PiP), which allows applications to overlay one another, faster boot times, and more customized notifications, among other key features. Stylistically, the OS also has been overhauled. Icons are now adaptive and will animate based on user interactions. Additionally, Google has decided to introduce app design guidelines which aim to create a more unified style for developers and end-users.
The updated OS is currently available for distribution among Google-branded devices. Users outside of this circle can expect delays depending on their specific device and carrier network. However, a new program titled ‘Project Treble‘ is set to expedite the often significant delay that many Android users face upon release.
As of May 2017, Android has two billion monthly active users, making it the single largest installed base of any operating system.
