Siri Web Results Switches from Bing to Google
– a press release
“Apple’s smart assistant, Siri, will now offer search results from Google instead of Bing.”
For Immediate Release – September 26, 2017
Muncie, Ind. – Apple’s smart assistant, Siri, will now offer search results from Google instead of Bing. This update comes in line with a recent release of iOS 11 and is an effort by Apple to provide a more consistent user experience. Safari, Apple’s default browser for both Mac and iOS, has long defaulted searches to Google results. As such, it would make sense that Siri direct users toward the same search traffic. Spotlight, the system-wide desktop search feature for Macs, will receive similar treatment with the roll out of macOS 10.13 High Sierra.
“Switching to Google as the web search provider for Siri, Search within iOS and Spotlight on Mac will allow these services to have a consistent web search experience with the default in Safari,” according to an Apple statement. “We have strong relationships with Google and Microsoft and remain committed to delivering the best user experience possible.”
